Long Bay Structure Plan - one of Auckland's premiere sustainable greenfield developments
Client: Auckland Council, 2000 - 2011
Responsibilities: Design options analyses of integrated water services (stormwater, water supply, wastewater), with a focus on low impact design and at-source stormwater controls. Writing stormwater guidelines documentation, author of stormwater structure plan rules, and stormwater expert witness at Environment Court Hearing 2005 and follow up expert caucusing.
Achievements: Developed a sustainability decision-making process assessing a full range of water infrastructure technologies (including rainwater, wastewater, stormwater and mains water) for the new 250 hectare greenfield development. This methodology allowed an organised, informed decision-making system easing the decision-making process by Local Government.
The application of this policy developed a comprehensive set of twenty-four practice notes to be used by engineers, architects, planners and builders to assist in compliance with environmentally sensitive development rules. The practice notes covered areas of at-source stormwater management, improved wastewater collection systems, rainwater harvesting, potable and non-potable water use, ecological enhancement and riparian planting.
